I am Debbie Connors and I am seeking re-election for the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) Public School Trustee representing Bradford West Gwillimbury.

I am a lifetime resident of Bradford. All three of my children are/were SCDSB students, as I was. My oldest child is in her third year of university and my other two children attend Bradford District High School.

I have always been passionate about contributing to our education system. I was a school council parent representative at my children’s school for 12 years. My many years of involvement with the school council and being a parent has been beneficial during my time as your Trustee.

I am very excited about the opening of our much-needed two new elementary schools and will continue to lobby for funding for a second public high school for our growing BWG. A new secondary school has been a priority for the last few capital requests to the Ministry of Education but we have not received the funding for a school yet.

I strongly believe every student should feel safe, included and accepted, and our schools must continue to actively promote positive behaviours and interactions.  We need to continue to create a culture of belonging, engagement and success for all.

I will continue to focus on student achievement and well-being including student engagement and mental health. We need to continue to push the Ministry to continue to fund the tutoring program which started this year to help children catch up from the many months of online learning. Sadly, Covid impacted our education system dramatically and I look forward to aiding our system moving forward.

I feel my combined 16 years of experience as a school council member and as a trustee will continue to benefit our area and ask for your vote. My voice will continue to address the needs of all our students and our growing community. I believe that our students deserve the best education that they can receive since they are our future.
