Hi, I’m Lisa Hawkins and I’m your Ward 6 candidate for Bradford West Gwillimbury. My family and I have lived on Barrie Street in Ward 6 for the past 25 years.

Four years ago, I ran for council for the first time. I received 45 per cent of your votes. What a spectacular experience! I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to my fellow Bradford residents for the amazing support you extended me then, and now. I know we can go all the way this year!

I have many skills and attributes that will enable me to be an excellent councillor. Combined with a degree in political science and undergraduate law, my business career as a corporate interior design specialist has made me a very strong team leader, managing multi-million-dollar projects across Canada. This encompasses extensive partnering with corporate executives, city planners, facilities managers, construction trades and transportation crews.

Among my strongest assets is my integrity and passion for my community. Volunteering, serving on the parent school council, and fundraising for many years has been incredibly rewarding and a privilege to undertake.

As your councillor, I will support:

  • More affordable and diverse housing for seniors, including increased in-home health-care services
  • Preservation of our beautiful historical buildings and communities
  • Prioritized redevelopment of town assets like the old Bradford high school and community centre
  • Continued support of our emergency and essential services
  • Increased road safety and calming measures in problem areas
  • Lobbying for the Highway 400-404 Connecting Link
  • Expansion of walking and cycling trails

I believe Bradford council must go forward with the inclusion of strong, qualified women. Women will change the dynamic, reshape the conversation and ensure that our voices are also heard. Truly, how can anything be about us without us?

This October, let’s make our council is as inclusive and diverse as our beautiful town.
