Lillian Vaughn, age 102, was accompanied by her daughter to receive her COVID-19 vaccination Wednesday.

With her granddaughter at her side, 102-year-old Lillian Vaughan received her COVID-19 vaccination in Barrie Wednesday.

Vaughan has lived in Innisfil with her granddaughter, Jennifer Hay, as well as Hay’s husband and daughter for the past 18 years.

“You can have a conversation with her about anything,” says Hay.

She says Vaughan is an avid sports fan, and also keeps a keen eye on politics and the news.

For Vaughan, receiving the vaccination means not only protection and peace of mind but a step towards visiting her son after a year of isolation.

“It’s closer to her being able to see family again,” said Hay. “Luckily she lives with us, but she hasn’t been able to see my dad or his wife, so that really makes things difficult.”

Despite everything, Vaughan remains in good spirits.

“She’s fantastic,” says Hay, “[She is] very spry, she has a great sense of humour.”

Currently, only the most vulnerable groups are eligible to receive the vaccine in Simcoe Muskoka. The province’s rollout plan will begin to expand more groups in April. For more information on the province’s rollout plan, click here.
