104-year-old Orillia man 'happy' to receive COVID-19 vaccine

The local senior is urging others to get vaccinated; 'It’s important to get the vaccine to get this flu under control,' he said

On Wednesday afternoon, Jim Wood, a 104-year-old Orillia man, received his COVID-19 vaccination at the Rotary Place COVID vaccine clinic.

Wood says he was continually encouraged to get vaccinated by his sons, Jim Jr. and Murray.

“I’m happy to get it because I wouldn’t want to catch this flu at my age," Wood said.

"I’m fairly healthy and all of that, but I’m at the age where it would be very tough to fight that at this time."

While Wood says he isn’t intimidated by the virus, he wanted to get his vaccination to help protect front-line workers such as his wife Marie who works as a nurse.

“It’s important to keep this in line with the rest of the population,” he said.

“I’m not too worried about it myself, I haven’t needed a needle for anything in about 40 years. I’ve got good coverage on health and have lived a good long healthy life on a healthy diet.”

Wood says he encourages everybody to get vaccinated once it is their turn to do so.

“It’s important to get the vaccine to get this flu under control,” Wood said.

“It’s certainly up to them, but I think at this time the vaccine is going to help an awful lot."
