The public and Catholic school boards are reporting a combined total of 12 new COVID-19 cases in schools since Friday.
In Barrie, there have been three cases reported at public elementary schools: two cases and classroom closures at West Bayfield Elementary School and one case and classroom closure at Andrew Hunter Elementary School. Two new cases were also reported as of late Sunday at The Good Shepherd Catholic School in Barrie. Two classrooms are closed as a result of those cases.
In Bradford, there are four new cases being reported at local schools over the weekend: two cases and classroom closures at Bradford District High School and a new case at Holy Trinity Catholic High School. This adds to two previously reported cases and classroom closures at Holy Trinity. The school was declared in outbreak by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit on Mar. 2. There was also a new case reported at Chris Hadfield Public School over the weekend, with one classroom closure as a result.
Also new as of the weekend are two cases at Tay Shores Public School in Victoria Harbour with two classrooms closed, and one case at Tecumseth South Central Public School in Tottenham, with one classroom closure.
Three Simcoe County schools had outbreaks declared by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit last week that are still listed as active: Maple Grove Public School in Barrie, St. Theresa's Catholic High School in Midland, and Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bradford.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is responsible for declaring a COVID-19 outbreak in the region. According to the health unit site, an outbreak is declared at a school when student and/or staff have confirmed COVID-19 cases that can be linked to the educational setting.
As of March 8, at the Simcoe County District School Board, there are currently 21 active COVID-19 cases:
- One case at Andrew Hunter Elementary School in Barrie, with one classroom closure
- Two cases at Tay Shores Public School in Victoria Harbour, with two classrooms closed
- One case at Tecumseth South Central Public School in Tottenham, with one classroom closure
- Two cases at West Bayfield Elementary School in Barrie, with two classroom closures
- Two cases at Bradford District High School with two classroom closures
- One case at Chris Hadfield Public School in Bradford, with one classroom closure
- One case at Orillia Secondary School
- One case at Ardagh Bluffs Public School in Barrie, with one classroom closure
- One case at Fieldcrest Elementary School in Bradford
- Two cases at Steele Street Public School in Barrie, with two classrooms closed
- One case at Goodfellow Public School in Innisfil, with one classroom closed
- One case at Maple Grove Public School, with one classroom closed, outbreak declared Mar. 1
- One case at W.C. Little Elementary School in Barrie, with one classroom closed
- One case at Wyevale Central Public School in Tiny Township
- One case at Lions Oval Public School in Orillia
- One case at W.H. Day Elementary School in Bradford
- One case at Tottenham Public School
At the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, there are currently 15 active COVID-19 cases:
- The Good Shepherd Catholic School in Barrie has two cases and two classroom closures, reported on Mar. 7
- Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic School in Barrie has one case with no classroom closures, reported Mar. 4
- St. Mary's Catholic School in Collingwood has one case, with one classroom closure, reported Mar. 3
- St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School in Bradford has one case, with one classroom closure, reported Feb. 24
- Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bradford has three cases, with two classroom closures, reported on Mar. 7, outbreak declared Mar. 2
- St. Theresa's Catholic High School in Midland has two cases, with two classroom closures, reported on Feb. 28, outbreak declared Mar. 1
- St. James Catholic School has one case, with no classroom closures, reported on Feb. 19
- St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School has one case, with one classroom closure, reported on Feb. 26
- St. Peter's Catholic Secondary School has one case, with one classroom closure, reported on Feb. 21
- St. Marie of the Incarnation Catholic School in Bradford has two cases, with one classroom closure, reported on Feb. 27
The health unit will contact those who are considered to have had high-risk exposure to a known case of COVID-19.
