Bradford woman among 17 new COVID cases reported in Simcoe County

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed 19 new cases of COVID-19 in the region, including 17 in Simcoe County. 

There is a new Collingwood case being reported today, which is the fourth local case reported since Nov. 20. The latest case is a man between 45 and 64 years old. The transmission source is still under investigation. 

There are eight new cases in Barrie, including a girl and a boy under 18, one of which is linked to close contact and the other is under investigation.

There are three Barrie men between 18 and 34 years old included in today's case list, all transmission sources are still under investigation for those three cases. The remaining cases include three men between 35 and 44 years old, and two are linked to community transmission with the third linked to close contact. 

There is one new case each in Innisfil and Bradford West Gwillimbury today. An Innisfil man between 18 and 34 years old has tested positive and his case is community-acquired. A Bradford woman, also between 18 and 34 years old has tested positive. Her case is under investigation. 

There are three new cases in Springwater, including two men between 18 and 34 years old (one community-acquired and one under investigation) and a man between 45 and 64 years old (transmission under investigation). 

The final three Simcoe County cases include a boy under 18 from Adjala-Tosorontio (educational setting outbreak), a man between 45 and 64 from Adjala-Tosrontio (close contact), and a man between 35 and 44 years old from New Tecumseth (under investigation). 

The health unit also reported one case involving a woman between 18 and 34 years old, but her location details and transmission source have not yet been reported.

There is one new case in Muskoka Lakes included in today's case update. This case is a woman between 18 and 34 years old whose transmission is linked to close contact. 

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 1,954 cases of COVID-19, with 1,862 of those in Simcoe County. There are 1,690 cases listed as recovered in the region. Twelve people are currently hospitalized, all are Simcoe County residents. The health unit has confirmed 52 deaths since March.

The incidence rate for Simcoe County is 353 cases per 100,000 people. With a seven-day average of 28.4 cases per 100,000 people in a week. The region's reproductive rate shows every person who contracts COVID-19 transmits it to 1.1 other people, and testing data shows 2.1 per cent of people who are tested in the region test positive for COVID-19.
