A Bradford woman in her late 30s is the third confirmed COVID-19 case in the region.

The woman presented herself at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket on March 17 where she was hospitalized and is in serious condition.

She has no travel history and has not been in contact with any previously confirmed cases.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) says while the investigation is ongoing, there is evidence this is a community spread infection.

The information on the case was released in the SMDHU's news release early this afternoon and has not been reported yet on their website.

The SMDHU emphasizes the importance of social distancing in order to help flatten the curve.

For more information call Health Connection at 705-721-7520 or 1-877-721-7520, which has extended hours, or see www.smdhu.org.
