Health unit reports 42 new COVID cases in Simcoe-Muskoka today

There are 42 new COVID-19 cases being reported by the health unit in Simcoe County today. 

There are three new cases in Bradford West Gwillimbury: an 18 to 34 year old man is listed with source under investigation, and two 45 to 64 year old men are listed, one listed as close contact and the other as under investigation.

There are 14 new cases in Barrie today: one male and one female youth, four females between 18 and 34 years old, an 18-34 year old man, two 45-64 year old women, and five men between 45 and 64. Most of these cases are listed with the source still under investigation.

In Adjala-Tosorontio Township, there are two new cases today: a male between infancy and 17, and an 18-34-year-old man. The source of infection for both cases is listed as under investigation.

There are eight new cases being reported in Innisfil today. Two female youths are listed with source under investigation. An 18 to 34 year old woman is listed as part of a congregate setting outbreak. An 18 to 34 year old male is listed as close contact. A 35 to 44 year old man and two 45 to 64 year old women are listed as under investigation. A 45 to 64 year old man is listed as close contact.

In New Tecumseth, there are four new cases: two 18 to 34-year-old women are listed as close contact. Two 35 to 44-year-old men are listed as under investigation.

In Orillia, there are five new cases listed today. Four of the cases are linked to a congregate setting outbreak, two 18-to-34 year old women and two 18 to 34-year-old men. One case of a 35 to 44-year-old man is listed as community acquired.

The health unit refused to provide information on which congregate setting is affected, however clarified that congregate setting outbreak cases are confirmed COVID-19 cases linked to settings in which people temporarily or permanently reside such as group homes, supportive housing or shelters. The definition applies to residents and staff.

Ramara Township is reporting one new case today, in a 45 to 64 year old woman with the source listed as under investigation.

Severn Township is also reporting one new case in an 18 to 34-year-old man with source listed as congregate setting outbreak.

In Springwater Township there is one new case today, in a 65 to 79-year-old man with the source listed as under investigation.

There are also three cases on the list today with their municipality pending and the sources all listed as under investigation: one 18 to 34 year old woman and two 18 to 34-year-old men.

One case previously assigned to Barrie and one case previously assigned to Innisfil were removed. One was re-assigned to a different public health unit and one was determined to not meet case definition. 

Two cases previously assigned to New Tecumseth were re-assigned to Bradford and Adjala-Tosorontio and one case previously assigned to Orillia was re-assigned to Oro-Medonte upon further examination of the address data.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 2,218 COVID cases, with 2,119 of those in Simcoe County. There are 1,900 cases listed as recovered in the region. Thirteen people are currently hospitalized. All are Simcoe County residents. The health unit has confirmed 52 deaths since March.

The incidence rate for Simcoe County is 401 cases per 100,000 people.
