New COVID cases reported at Barrie, Innisfil schools

More classrooms have been closed at St. Joan of Arc and Innisdale in Barrie, Nantyr Shores in Innisfil

Four new COVID-19 cases are being reported as of this morning at Simcoe County schools.

Innisdale Secondary School is reporting one new case with one more classroom closed, adding to the case and classroom closure reported on Nov. 24.

Nantyr Shores Secondary School in Innisfil is reporting one new case and classroom closure. While this is the only currently active case, the school has had has two other cases since October that have since recovered.

An outbreak was declared by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit at St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School in Barrie on Tuesday. Overall as of Tuesday night, the school has five active cases, with five classrooms closed.

An outbreak at a school is defined by the local health unit as two or more lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in students and/or staff (or other visitors) with an epidemiological link (i.e. shared space or objects with each other), within a 14-day period, where at least one case could have contracted COVID-19 in the school (including transportation and before/after school care).

The schools all remain open.

The school boards and the health unit have not reported whether the individuals are students or staff members.
