The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is reporting three more resident deaths at the Roberta Place long-term care home, bringing the sad and growing tally to 49 during the outbreak which began earlier this month.
An essential caregiver linked to the Essa Road facility also died after contracting the virus, marking the 50th death since the outbreak was declared Jan. 8 by the health unit.
Positive cases among residents in the 137-bed facility have also increased by one and now sit at 128. Only one resident has not been infected by the virus, which has been identified by public health officials as the B.1.1.7. variant.
The health unit has also identified 85 household cases from primary contacts linked to Roberta Place, which is up from 42 as reported on Sunday.
There have also been 86 confirmed cases among staff/team members.
According to Stephanie Barber, community relations co-ordinator for Roberta Place, six staff/team member cases have now recovered from the virus.
There are also two active cases among essential caregivers as well as three external partners, which could include physicians and other health-care providers visiting the facility.
Local medical officer of health Dr. Charles Gardner has previously said he's "fully convinced" the UK variant is responsible for all of the deaths and positive cases at Roberta Place.
