Three new COVID-19 cases confirmed in Simcoe County today

New cases include two people in New Tecumseth and one in Essa Township

The number of COVID-19 cases in Simcoe-Muskoka has increased by three since the last update prior to Canada Day.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported today the new cases are in Essa Township and New Tecumseth. 

One of the New Tecumseth cases is a man between 45 and 64 years old. The source of infection remains under investigation. 

The other New Tecumseth case is a man between 35 and 44 years old, who contracted the virus through close contact with a known case.

The case in Essa Township is a woman between 45 and 64 years old. The cause also remains under investigation. 

There are now 602 cases in Simcoe-Muskoka. That includes 571 in Simcoe County and 30 in the District of Muskoka. The person's residency in another case is pending. 

Of the total local cases, 508 people have recovered from the virus, including five since the last update. 

Four people remain in hospital being treated for the virus. There have been no new hospitalizations since the last update. 

Most of the COVID-19 cases in Simcoe-Muskoka have been from Barrie and southern Simcoe County, including two large outbreaks in long-term care homes.

Since the health crisis began in March, 36 people have died locally from the coronavirus.
