6 new COVID cases reported in county schools over the weekend, 2 in Bradford

There are six new COVID-19 cases being reported in Simcoe County schools over the weekend, as students headed into their spring break.

There is one new case being reported at St. Angela Merici Catholic School in Bradford over the weekend, adding to four active cases and three classroom closures previously reported at the school.

There is also one new case being reported at St. Marie of the Incarnation Catholic School in Bradford over the weekend, adding to two active cases and one classroom closure previously reported at the school.

There are two cases being reported at St. Marguerite d'Youville Catholic School, located on Hanmer Street West in Barrie, with two classroom closures.

Our Lady of Grace Catholic School in Angus is reporting one new active case, and one classroom closure.

There is one new case being reported at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School in Tottenham. This adds to one case and classroom closure previously reported at the school.

The Simcoe County District School Board has indicated they will not be updating their advisory board the week of April 12-16 due to the spring break. Reporting of COVID-19 cases for that board will resume on April 19.

In total, there are three Simcoe County schools that have active outbreaks declared by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit: The Good Shepherd Catholic School in Barrie, W.H. Day Public School in Bradford and Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bradford.

According to the health unit, an outbreak is declared at a school when student and/or staff have confirmed COVID-19 cases that can be linked to the educational setting.

As of April 12 at the Simcoe County District School Board, there are 20 active COVID-19 cases:

  • One case at Assikinack Public School in Barrie, with one classroom closed
  • One case at Connaught Public School in Collingwood
  • One case at Emma King Public School in Barrie, with one classroom closed
  • One case at Hewitt's Creek Public School in Barrie
  • One case at Oakley Park Public School in Barrie, with one classroom closed
  • One case at West Bayfield Elementary School in Barrie, with one classroom closed
  • Two cases at Bradford District High School in Bradford, with one classroom closed
  • One case at Elmvale District High School in Elmvale
  • One case at Innisdale Secondary School in Barrie, with one classroom closed
  • One case at Alcona Glen Elementary School in Innisfil, with one classroom closed
  • One case at Nantyr Shores Secondary School in Innisfil, with one classroom closed
  • Three cases at Fieldcrest Elementary School in Bradford, with two classrooms closed
  • One case at Fred C. Cook Elementary School in Bradford with one classroom closed
  • One case at Chris Hadfield Public School in Bradford with one classroom closed
  • One case at Johnson Street Public School in Barrie 
  • One case at Terry Fox Elementary School in Barrie
  • One case at Bear Creek Secondary School in Barrie

At the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, there are currently 28 active COVID-19 cases:

  • Two cases at St. Marguerite d'Youville Catholic School, with two classroom closures, reported Apr. 11
  • Two cases at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School in Tottenham, one classroom closure, reported Apr. 9
  • Two cases at St. Jean de Brebeuf Catholic School in Bradford, one classroom closure, reported Apr. 5
  • One case at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School in Barrie, one classroom closure, reported Apr. 4
  • Four cases at St. Mary's Catholic School in Collingwood, two classroom closures, reported Apr. 8
  • One case at St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School in Bradford, no classroom closures, reported Apr. 1
  • One case at Saint Gabriel the Archangel Catholic School in Barrie, reported on Apr. 1
  • Three cases at St. Marie of the Incarnation Catholic School in Bradford, one classroom closure, reported on Apr. 11
  • Five cases at St. Angela Merici Catholic School in Bradford, three classroom closures, reported on Apr. 9
  • One case at Monsignor Lee Catholic School in Orillia, reported on Mar. 28
  • Three cases at The Good Shepherd Catholic School in Barrie, one classroom closed, reported on Apr. 5, outbreak declared Mar. 29
  • One case at Holy Cross Catholic School in Innisfil, reported on Mar. 28
  • Two cases at Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bradford, with one classroom closure, reported on April 5, outbreak declared Mar. 2

Nouvelle-Alliance secondary school in Barrie has one case, reported on March 24.

Notre-Dame-de-la-Huronie Catholic Elementary School in Collingwood has one case and one classroom closure, reported on March 28.

La Source Elementary School in south-end Barrie is reporting one positive case in a student.

The health unit will contact those who are considered to have had high-risk exposure to a known case of COVID-19.
