From Canal Road repairs, to autism program changes, Bradford West Gwillimbury will discuss a variety of issues.

A meeting of the town’s Committee of the Whole, which is made up of council members, will also take place, as usual, during part of the council meeting.

Members of the public are welcome to attend all council meetings, which take place at 7 p.m. in the Zima Room of the BWG Public Library. All meetings include an open forum for residents to address any local issues with council.

Closed session: Litigation

Bradford West Gwillimbury council will start with a meeting closed to the public to address “litigation/potential litigation,” according to the agenda.

If a decision is made, council will make a motion in the public part of the meeting.

Bond Head heritage

Archaeological Research Associates Ltd. is expected to make a presentation to BWG council about its Bond Head heritage conservation district study.

The town hired the consultants, which wrote a report as part of Phase 1 in the heritage conservation district project, but several councillors questioned the accuracy of parts of the report during a February meeting and requested an explanation from the firm.

Autism letter

BWG council will accept a letter from local resident Nicole Kim, which was sent to Mayor Rob Keffer about Ontario government changes to the Ontario Autism Program.

“She is writing on behalf of her 13 year old child who has autism. … She is asking for help to stop this new program from moving forward since it will not meet the needs of individuals,” read a correspondence document attached to the council agenda.

Canal Road repairs

The Committee of the Whole is expected to select an option for repairing Canal Road between Day Street and Wist Road after resurfacing in that area last fall “began to exhibit premature failure” shortly after it was done, read a town staff report.

The options range from spot patching, to complete reconstruction, and would cost between $53,000, to $670,000, read the report.

Staff have also suggested council could vote to postpone any repairs until the Ministry of Transportation closes the ramps at Canal Road, but a timeline and funding for that are unknown.

Bond Head development

The committee will vote on whether to approve a revised draft plan for a 54-hectare housing development on the north side of County Road 88 that straddles County Road 27.

BWG council had already approved a draft plan for 334 single detached units back in 2012. The amendment adds six more because the developer had since purchased 3017 County Road 27 and wanted to include it into the overall design.

Public meeting: Building for elderly mother

Members of the public are invited to share any comments about a request for a temporary use zoning bylaw amendment by BWG resident Jodi Greenstreet for her property at 4136 Line 8.

She wants to build a 110-square-metre “garden suite” for her elderly mother on the agricultural property, according to a town staff report.

Park naming

BWG council will vote on whether to accept a recommendation to start an official Park, Facility or Property Naming policy.

The policy also includes how larger groups can apply and pay to name properties.
