Artisan market coming to Portuguese Cultural Centre next month

Event takes place Feb. 6 at the Portuguese Cultural Centre

Bradford resident and event planner Amber Campbell is hoping to get the community together again (COVID pending) to help support small businesses at her shopping event at the Portuguese Cultural Centre next month.

'The Sunday Market' will take place Sunday, Feb. 6, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and feature 40 local and small businesses from Bradford and the surrounding area. Admission is free.

Campbell hosts these events monthly and says they are a great way for small businesses to advertise their handmade goods and homemade food items to the public while showcasing their talents.

"My passion for these events grew stronger once the world changed in 2020," she explained. "Small businesses were shutting down and giving up because of the current struggles they face due to the pandemic."

Campbell was able to find a way to help businesses, by putting on markets in a safe way, which she says has been a success.

So far she has been able to put on five markets this year. In the warmer months, they are held outside.

"So many local businesses have come together and been able to succeed because of farmers' and artisan markets. Being able to see products in person and meet the person who made the item is the reason why our events are hugely successful and we have positive feedback from our customers," she said.

She has two more markets already planned for March and April.

"All the vendors in the markets are locals, and everything is handmade and there’s always a variety of vendors," she said. "There really is something for everyone."
