Bond Head's Bob and Janet Evans celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, with their children and grandchildren.
"It was on a day just like today...hot!" laughed Janet. "And my wedding dress was high neck and long sleeved."
The wedding was held in Janet's hometown of Sarnia, on Saturday Aug. 8, 1970 with 150 guests.
Bob has lived in Bradford his whole life, and met Janet while she was teaching French at Bradford District High School. Janet had been boarding with a lady in Bradford who knew Bob and his family, and met at one of their dinner parties.
Was it love at first sight? "On my part!" Bob confirmed with a smile.
Bob recently retired in 2019 after a 54 year career with Bradford law firm Evans & Evans Higgins LLP (now called Evans DeVries Higgins LLP) founded by his grandfather Thomas W.W. Evans.
"It's very different, but it's been great," said Bob about his retirement so far during COVID.
The Evans' four children and their spouses celebrated the couple with a toast late Saturday afternoon at their home in Bond Head, before heading out in a stretch SUV limo for a meal at the quaint Mrs. Mitchell's Kitchen in Mulmur.
