Many people have watched The Amazing Race at some point – the contestants rushing to be complete tricky challenges, receive their next clue and be the first to arrive at their destination - all to win an amazing grand prize.

Shona Reuter, youth director at Bond Head United Church, has organized a Mini Amazing Race, taking place in Bond Head and Bradford West Gwillimbury this Saturday, Sept. 22. In case you are wondering what groups of people are doing running around town this weekend - this could be the answer.

Six teams of two to five members each will be heading out from Bond Head United in the morning – facing eight challenges that will teach them “about our wonderful area rich in heritage and history,” Reuter said.

It was Rev. Diane Knowles who came up with the idea of the race, Reuter said.

Knowles and Carla Williams came up with the stop ideas and challenges, and Reuter who wrote the race outline, riddles and clues.

“That’s really how our church works,” she said. “Everyone comes together.”

Members stepped up to volunteer as stop hosts, even though it could mean standing outside for several hours.

The first team to complete the challenges and follow the clues will win – not $1 million, but a grand prize of a dinner and movie night, all expenses paid. And every team, Reuter said, will go home with an Amazing Race memento.

Reuter hosts the Sunday School, during the weekly service that includes a bible lesson, Pinterest craft sessions, workshops and special events, plus a monthly meeting for teens. For more information on Bond Head United Church, visit bondheadunitedchurch.ca.
