Book lovers assemble for first ever Book Club Summit at BWG Library (10 photos)

It was a night of collaboration and discussion at the first ever, Book Club Summit held at the BWG Public Library

Local book club members, and self proclaimed “book club member wannabes” came together for BWG Library’s first ever Book Club Summit on Wednesday evening.

The idea came from Information Services Librarian, Elizabeth Campbell to “celebrate our mutual love of books.”

She said it was a good way to figure out what the community book club needs are from the library.

“It is something I have wanted to do it for a while. We launched a book club service two years ago but we didn’t know how to get in touch with the book clubs,” she said.

The event was free and brought in book lovers from the community, some of which who have their own private book clubs or are members of the BWG Adult Book Club.

Upon arrival, guests signed in and filled out a name tag and were welcome to complimentary tea, coffee and desserts.

The 11 guests and four library staff sat together in a rounded table fashion. Campbell referred to the meeting as the “United Nations of Book Clubs” where guests were able to discuss some of their personal club favourites as well as provide suggestions to the library on what books would be wise to purchase for future reading.

“Attending the first summit was a great way to collaborate with book lovers in the community,” said attendee and local book club member, Siobhan McCarthy.

“We learned tips and tricks on how to pick compelling books that will generate thoughtful discussions for our clubs to read.”

There are sets available to borrow for both adult and children’s book clubs, as well as special sets for teachers and multicultural book club sets from Simcoe County Libraries.

The books from the sets are available on loan for six week periods and have multiple copies available to ensure all book club members can read together.

Sets available to borrow can be found here.
