Bradford Farmers’ Market boosts holiday 'spirits' with cheese-and-cider tasting

The last Bradford Farmers’ Market days of the year will also have Hanukkah and Christmas themes

The Bradford Farmers’ Market extended its season by moving indoors this fall.

While cold winds, rain and snow swept through the parking lot where the market had set up during the summer months, vendors have been snug and warm indoors in the Zima Room at the BWG Public Library, every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., bringing fresh produce, preserves, sauces and dips, local honey, fresh baking and treats to a loyal clientele.

But the season is finally winding down. There are only three more market days planned, on Dec. 1, 15 and 22 — all of them holiday markets.

That means the usual vendors will be joined by crafters and artisans, selling unique stocking-stuffers and holiday gifts, and that vendors will add festive items, gift baskets and holiday treats to their regular products.

As well, market volunteers will offer more crafts and cookie-decorating activities for kids on a holiday theme.

The theme on Dec. 1 will be Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights. Visitors can play a dreidel game to win chocolate coins and other prizes, as well as make crafts, and participate in a scavenger hunt.

Dec. 15 and 22 will be Christmas markets. On Dec. 15, Say Cheese! Artisanal Cheeses will be pairing with Heritage Estate Winery and Cidery of Barrie to offer a cheese and cider tasting, and ideas for home entertaining.

“We’ve held workshops with them before,” said Saskia Sloeserwij, who, with husband Hans, owns Say Cheese. “Don’t miss it!”

Note: There will be no farmers’ market on Dec. 8. Instead, the library is offering Trim the Tree, a free drop-in activity and craft program, for ages two and up.
