Bradford faces off against Quinte West, in the OMHA Playdowns

The Bradford Midget A Bulldogs have taken a 2-0 game lead in their OMHA Quarter Final series against the Quinte West Hawks.

Game 1 on Feb. 15 was a 2-1 win for the Bulldogs, playing at the Duncan McDonald arena in Trenton.

The Bulldogs scored both goals in the 1st Period – the first by Carson Cameron (#25) from Karsen Christophersen (#21)  about 6 minutes into the frame; the second by Tyler Mumford (#14), a minute later, with assists to Ryan Jensen (#17) and Kyle Staring (#6).

That was the end of Bradford’s scoring, but it was all they needed. The Bulldogs held on to the lead despite a Hawks’ goal in the second, to win the game.

Game 2 was on Bulldogs’ home ice, at the BWG Leisure Centre on Sunday evening.

This time it was the Hawks who were first on the scoreboard – on a goal by Andrew Wood, from Brady Bowditch.

The Bulldogs pressed hard, but were unable to get past goalie Brock Sallans in the opening frame, and Quinte West took its 1-0 lead into the second period.

It was Carson Cameron who tied it up, unassisted, with just over five minutes left in the period.

The game was knotted at 1-all going into the 3rd. Bradford pressed hard, but the Hawks’ goalie and defence blocked every attack, including a hard slapshot by Thomas King (#3) from the blue line.

A Quinte West penalty, with only six minutes left on the clock, gave the Bulldogs all the opening they needed. It was a flying Carson Cameron who took the puck down the ice and scored, giving Bradford a 2-1 lead on the power play.

The energized Bulldogs continued to press hard. With Bradford leading by only one goal, and one minute left in regulation play, the Hawks pulled their goalie for the extra attacker – only to see Bradford's King, handed the puck by Joseph Magani (#67), send a clean shot down the ice into an empty net.

Bradford won, 3-1.

Game 3 takes place in Trenton on Feb. 20. Game 4 will be at the BWG Leisure Centre on Feb. 22; puck drop at 7:15 p.m.
