Human Endeavour’s Enterprise Promotion & Innovation Centre (EPIC) training hub and bradfordWORKS have partnered to offer residents of south Simcoe County a multimedia apprenticeship program.

The free program is designed to provide skills training, not only to build careers in graphic design and communications, but to offer entrepreneurs the skills needed to manage their own marketing campaigns.

The multimedia apprenticeship will be offering three free courses this summer at bradfordWORKS, 95 Holland St. W., unit 105, in Bradford West Gwillimbury, starting with introductory graphic design with Photoshop.

Graphic Design with Photoshop will be offered July 11 and 12, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day.

Under instructor Ahmed Zakaria, participants will learn about various types of graphics, and become familiar with Photoshop and its tools, plug-ins, press and web requirements, and learn how to create appealing graphics and a poster.

The course is free, but participants are asked to pre-register by calling bradfordWORKS at 905-778-9058 or email [email protected].

Ahmed Zakaria has extensive experience in advertising and graphic design, working with clients across North America, Europe and Asia.

He has offered his expertise through Human Endeavour and bradfordWORKS to provide instruction for the apprenticeship program.

“This is the third year for us offering this training in Bradford,” Zakaria said. “This is specially aimed for enabling community members to get relevant jobs in the field, or existing employees to better their prospects.

“Also, small business owners can enable themselves to make their own promotional material.”

Two additional free courses are planned for this summer:

Advanced Graphic Design will be offered July 17 and 18, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at bradfordWORKS.

Learn advanced design tools, how to work with Vector graphics, creating print-ready documents working in Adobe Photoshop, CorelDRAW and InDesign.

The course is geared toward those looking for a career in graphic design, entrepreneurs hoping to create their own marketing materials, and marketing and administration staff looking to upgrade their skills.

Build Your Own Website is offered Aug. 7 and 8 at bradfordWORKS, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Learn to create and maintain your own website.

The program is designed for those interested in a career in web development, entrepreneurs wanting to manage their own websites, and marketing and administration staff.

“So far, our training courses have been full to capacity, and we have seen a diverse range of participants attending,” Zakaria said. “There is no other similar training available in the neighbourhood that enables the participants in this short a time, and with the latest industry trends.”

All courses are free, thanks to funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.

Sign up for one or more of the courses at bradfordWORKS by calling 905-778-9058 or email [email protected].

Training in accounting and QuickBooks is also planned.

The initiative is a project of EPIC, bradfordWORKS, Bradford Learning Centre, Bradford United Church, Nottawasaga Futures, and the Town of BWG’s economic development office.
