Bradford residents 'Taco 'Bout the Food Bank' at charity fundraiser

Fifteen percent of all food sales, 100 per cent of raffle ticket sales, and $5 a pop for the opportunity to take the mic and sing along with karaoke - Thursday night’s Let’s Taco ‘Bout the Food Bank fundraiser donated every penny raised to the Helping Hand Food Bank in Bradford West Gwillimbury.

Held at Made in Mexico, the fundraiser was sponsored by Drive True Automotive and organized by Successful Women Always Networking (SWAN).

The women of SWAN choose a charity each year, and, through their monthly networking meetings and special events, raise funds for the cause. This year’s target charity is the food bank.

Made in Mexico was packed on Thursday night, as members of SWAN and their supporters came out to fundraise and enjoy an evening of fun with a Mexican flavour. The music and karaoke provided by Skaraoke Entertainment, owned by SWAN member Jackie Kozak, provided the perfect backdrop – and uncovered some surprising talent.

By Friday afternoon, SWAN organizers were still tallying up the proceeds, but the event raised more than $1,000 from raffle, karaoke and other donations.

"We're very pleased," said SWAN member Barb Vaughan.
