Popcorn sales go to help 1st Bradford Scouts pay for their programming and activities

1st Bradford Scouts group is selling popcorn this month, helping to raise money for the many activities and adventures that they participate in weekly.

Forty-five per cent of the popcorn sales go back to 1st Bradford Scouts.

Many of the activities for the youth are done outside, from campfires to hikes. The group holds regular fundraisers throughout the year to help pay for their activities and programs, including their yard waste bags, popcorn and coffee sales.

Just this past week, the Beaver group got together to create their own personal First Aid Kits.

It is the materials included in the kits such as band-aids, gauze, and wipes that their fundraising efforts help pay for.

"In 2019-2020 we spent $1,400 in programming expenses, weekly program, badges, bowling, presenters, sleepovers, camping," said Amy Stepanek, Scout Leader. "We use fundraiser money, donations and participant fees for special activities."

Stepanek, also known as "Tic Tac" or "Scouter Amy", started volunteering with Scouts eight years ago, when her oldest son joined the Scouts' Beaver group.

There is approximately 70 youth currently registered in 1st Bradford Scouts. The group has access to a location on the 13th Line in Bradford through Eric Wright’s World of Camping to hold its outdoor meetings.

Most groups are accepting new members, except for the Beavers (Ages 5-7) due to a lack of volunteers.

"We need more volunteers in order to open up our second Beaver colony again," explained Stepanek.

The popcorn sold by Bradford Scouts is from supplier Papa Jack Popcorn, with oversized bags. There are seven different products being offered, from a family move night bundle to caramel corn, and can be ordered directly online here

For those who live in Bradford and want to save on shipping, orders can be made on the Scouts Google Order Form here. Orders must be in by Nov. 28.
