Bradford students jump, skip, bounce for charity

This year's event went way beyong skipping ropes

Jump Rope for Heart is a fundraiser that was designed for kids in elementary school.

Students are encouraged to jump, skip and get active with their classmates, enjoying heart-healthy activities while raising funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Chris Hadfield Public School in Bradford held its Jump Rope for Heart event on June 21, but it went way beyond skipping ropes.

With activities organized by the school’s Grade 8 students, Jump Rope for Heart included hula-hoops, bouncing balls, and basketball hoops.

To participate, each student was asked to bring in a toonie, with the goal of raising more than $1,400 for charity.

According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Jump Rope For Heart was launched to get kids active, promote physical activity, teach the importance of social responsibility and empower students to make a difference.

Close to 4,000 schools were expected to participate this year, with nearly one million kids jumping, running and skipping.

In 2017, the Heart and Stroke Foundation invested $32.6 million in life-saving research, and $38 million in advocacy and health promotion.
