CADETS' CORNER: Air cadets ready for the new year

Cadets and staff will be back at Fieldcrest to resume training on Jan. 12 after 'much-needed' break

Cadets’ Corner is a weekly column submitted by the 37 Orville Hand air cadets group.

The cadets and staff are taking a much-needed break. We will be back at Fieldcrest to resume training on Thursday, Jan. 12.

Why not join us and see what we are all about? We have had a fantastic first half of the training year, and 2023 promises to be bigger and better.

An overnight weekend field training exercise is now in the planning stages to be executed in the spring. A trip to the CFB Trenton Air Force Museum is also being planned. Our Effective Speaking Competition is coming up on Feb. 23, with the top two moving on to the regional competition with cadets from other units in the GTA.

Two cadets are currently participating in the Flying Program; their written exam is scheduled for mid-January. They hope to be selected to attend summer training; one cadet is hoping to earn their power pilot licence, and the other cadet their glider licence.

Cadets will be participating in the Air Cadet Activity Day hosted by the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Technology and Engineering at CFB Borden. Planting trees in our community and a sports competition will keep the Cadets busy. Feel free to join us, and have a look at our website.
