Celebrating Holy Trinity soccer team’s OFSAA win

'We want to recognize you because this is a really great accomplishment,' said the mayor

With the school year coming to an end, Holy Trinity Catholic High School held a year-end spirit assembly on Thursday where the school honoured its girls' soccer team for bringing home OFSAA gold earlier this month.

The Holy Trinity Tigers won the 2022 OFSAA AA Girls Soccer Championship on home turf as hosts of the tournament this year with 20 teams in Bradford competing for gold. The season ended with Holy Trinity defeating Thomas A. Blakelock 2-1 in the championship game.

To celebrate the team’s accomplishment, Principal Heinrich Bebie invited Mayor Rob Keffer and the rest of Bradford West Gwillimbury council to the assembly, who were integral in helping organize the tournament.

"I’m very honoured to have our Mayor Rob Keffer and the councillors here," said Bebie.

Speaking to a gymnasium full of students and staff, the room erupted in cheer when Keffer asked everyone to join him in congratulating the girls' soccer team on their win.

“A few weeks ago, the Holy Trinity Tigers girls’ soccer team was crowned the 2022 Girls OFSAA AA Girls Soccer Champions,” Keffer said. “We want to recognize you because this is a really great accomplishment. On behalf of the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury, the community members, myself as mayor, and fellow council members, congratulations on this achievement.

"We’re incredibly proud of you for reaching this goal on your athletic journey. To the coaching staff, thank you for being so devoted to instilling the skills of sport, perseverance, and dedication into our future leaders.”

Keffer and the council members presented the team with a framed congratulatory certificate on behalf of the town that included a photo of the team alongside a roster list to hang on the school's walls.

“May this frame be a reminder of what you’ve achieved for your school and for your community,” said Keffer. “Your commitment to achieving your goal will be with you for the rest of your lives. Congratulations to the whole school from the coaching staff to the principal to the parents to everybody that supported this tournament and the team. Go Tigers!”

The school has been selected to host the boys' OFSAA soccer tournament in 2023.
