Clean up the Bradford community this Saturday

Join the Bradford West Gwillimbury Community Clean-Up Day May 5 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The annual Bradford West Gwillimbury Community Clean-Up Day was originally scheduled earlier in April – but Mother Nature didn’t co-operate.

It was just too cold, too muddy and too icy for volunteers to get out and clean up litter and debris from the town’s parks and roadsides.

The clean-up day has been rescheduled for May 5 from 9 a.m. to noon, and community members of all ages are invited to come out and help beautify the town.

Volunteers will meet at the Bradford & District Memorial Community Centre and will board buses to be driven to this year’s sites. Gloves, garbage bags and reflective vests will be provided, but volunteers should dress for the weather.

After a morning of picking up litter, volunteers will return to the community centre for a complimentary lunch.

Organizers said the event is ideal for high school students who need community hours before graduation, and they should bring their forms to be signed.

It was not only the town-wide clean-up day affected by weather this year.

The lingering winter conditions resulted in the cancellation or rescheduling of a number of local schoolyard clean-up events, some of which are took place this week.
