The Town of Wasaga Beach is without a chief administrative officer at the moment.
The town announced in a news release the interim CAO, Gerry Marshall, is “no longer with the municipality.”
Marshall took the job at Wasaga Beach town hall late August, and resigned suddenly from his then-current position as Mayor of Penetanguishene and warden of Simcoe County council. The latter two were elected positions.
At the time, fellow members of county council expressed shock at his leaving.
Then Penetanguishene Deputy Mayor Anita Dubeau also said she was surprised Marshall was leaving so close to the Oct. 22 municipal election. Marshall had already filed his nomination papers to run for mayor of Penetanguishene again, and his name remained on the ballot for the municipal election. Marshall spent just shy of eight years as mayor of Penetanguishene. Douglas Leroux was elected mayor this year.
The Wasaga Beach CAO job initially became available when long-time CAO George Vadeboncoeur retired.
Today, Dec. 5, the town sent out a press release thanking Marshall for “helping us out.”
“Gerry [Marshall] provided our organization with steady leadership during the municipal election period and in the weeks afterward leading up to the swearing in of our new council,” said Mayor Nina Bifolchi.
According to the press release, Wasaga Beach council will meet Thursday (Dec. 6) to consider how to proceed with filling the CAO position.
