Crowds turn out for the Bond Head Lions Christmas Craft Show (10 photos)

Christmas Craft Show in Bond Head also raised funds for the community

The third annual Bond Head Lions Christmas Craft Show and Sale held at the Bond Head Community Hall on Saturday, provided a venue for dozens of local vendors.

There were tables upstairs and downstairs at the hall, and even a display of Christmas decor and decorative urns outside the front doors.

Hand-made jewellery, hand-knitting, quilts, Christmas decorations, original photographs and artwork – shoppers found a wide range of unique gift ideas, hand-crafted by local artisans and vendors.

There were also a number of fundraisers. The Bond Head United Church Women covered tables with their baking and preserves – and quickly sold out of cookies, squares and pies, raising funds both for the church, and to help the family of little Brooklyn Mauca, who continues to recover from the devastating aftermath of a ‘routine’ tonsillectomy.

In 2017, Brooklyn, then a toddler, suffered an atrial hemorrhage following surgery – a complication that stopped her heart, leading to brain injury.  Now four years old, Brooklyn continues to recover but needs ongoing therapy and the family continues to struggle financially.

Their struggle inspired artist Christine Orr to set aside a number of her paintings at the show, making them available ‘by donation,’ to raise funds for Brooklyn.

The Christmas Craft Show was also a fundraiser for the Bond Head Lions Club and its community projects.

In addition to hosting and organizing the show, the Lions operated the lunchroom – serving up coffee, hot chocolate, muffins, butter tarts and hot chili, and provided a break for the hundreds of shoppers who dropped in to browse and find unique gifts for Christmas.
