Eight new COVID cases reported in Simcoe-Muskoka since Friday

There are 30 active cases in the region

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported eight new COVID-19 cases and no deaths in today's update (July 26).

There are two new cases in Barrie. One is an individual between 18 and 34 years old and the other is an individual between the ages of 45 and 64. The transmission source is travel-related.

There is also an Innisfil resident between 45 and 64 years old who has contracted the virus.

There are two new cases are in Oro-Medonte Township. Both are youth under 17 years old. The source in one is close contact with another known case. 

One new case is being reported in Wasaga Beach, an individual between 18 and 34 years old.

The other two cases are in Gravenhurst, a youth under 17 and was cause by close contact, and another in Huntsville which is a person between 18 and 34 years old.

There are currently 30 active cases in the region. 

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,358 cases of COVID-19 with 12,073 of those cases recovered and 255 cases ending in death.

There are three people from Simcoe-Muskoka hospitalized with COVID-19-related illnesses, with no new hospitalizations.

The health unit has confirmed 4,979 variant cases in the region so far, with nine of those cases still active. 

Fifty-three per cent of the region's total population is fully vaccinated, and another 15 per cent has one dose of a COVID vaccine. The remaining 32 per cent is unvaccinated, which includes children under 12 who are ineligible for a vaccine at this time.

Anyone aged 12 years or older living in Simcoe-Muskoka region can book their first or second dose of vaccine online via Ontario vaccine booking system. More appointments are added regularly for clinics throughout the region.

The health unit does sometimes remove a case or move them based on further investigation of location data. The chart below reflects updated totals for each municipality as reported by the health unit on July 21).
