Georgian College second-year fine arts students will be showcasing their work in a dynamic exhibit in the Campus Gallery. Titled The Catalysts, this exhibition features 10 student visual artists who work in a variety of media. It opens on March 30 with a special reception from 6 to 9 p.m. and runs until April 19.
“The collaboration of these student artists who have supported each other during their education, creative process, and this exhibition illustrates the importance of artistic communities,” said Amy Bagshaw, Campus Gallery director and program co-ordinator for the museum and gallery studies program at Georgian. “As emerging artists, this exhibition marks their transition into the next stage of their careers while celebrating their accomplishments during their studies at Georgian.”
The exhibit features the work of Leyang Bu, Chantelle Fournier, Emily Fraser, Kristen Grey, Pooja Katiyar, Mackenzie Kruiderink, Manan Lamba, Michael Smith, Caleb Wiseman and Anabel Borges Lucas. They will be graduating this spring and are excited to share their work with everyone.
Borges Lucas describes what visitors can expect: “This exhibit will spark you through the spirit ribbons of the gentle deer, you’ll laugh with a humble vegetable, make friends with our devilish side, explore winding pathways, and be awed by a blanket of snow. You’ll also see a soulful guitar revived, be able to pause in a refracted portrait, love across sand and time, delight in the magic of a winged fox, or relax into a vessel.”
The Campus Gallery is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It’s located at the Barrie campus in the Helen and Arch Brown Centre for Design and Visual Arts.
