A brief cool down tonight with a return to warmer temperatures Tuesday through Thursday.

The cool down will be short lived, as the heat and humidity will return on Tuesday and persist through most of this week. Daytime highs will again be in the low 30s with humidex values near 40. Overnight low temperatures are expected to be near 20 degrees, except high teens in some rural areas, providing little or no relief from the heat.

A cool down is expected by Friday with the passage of a cold front.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Extreme heat affects everyone.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
