Environment Canada issues hot weather alert for Bradford and area

Warm, humid airmass expected to move into southern Ontario on Sunday and Sunday night

Special weather statement in effect for:
  • Innisfil - New Tecumseth - Angus
  • Orangeville - Grand Valley - Southern Dufferin County
  • Shelburne - Mansfield - Northern Dufferin County

The first heat event of the season is setting up for portions of Central and Eastern Ontario on Sunday.

A warm and humid airmass is expected to move into Southern Ontario with maximum temperatures near 31 degrees and lows around 20 degrees on Sunday and Sunday night.

A cold front is expected to bring precipitation and cooler air into Southern Ontario on Monday. Therefore, this will only be a one day heat event.

These conditions may pose a health risk when you are not used to the heat.

Everyone is at risk from heat, especially older adults; infants and young children; and people with chronic illnesses.

You are advised to

1) drink plenty of cool liquids before feeling thirsty; and

2) keep cool by dressing for the weather and spending a few hours each day in a cool place.
