Finding a way to do track and field without a track or field

Top competitors will go on to the area meet in June.

How do young athletes prepare for track and field when their school does not have a playing field or a track?

Students at W.H. Day Elementary School found a solution: borrow the track at nearby Holy Trinity Catholic High School.

W.H. Day has a playground, but the steep topography behind the Bradford school means there is no room for a track.

On May 25, students from Grade 4 to Grade 8 hiked up the road to the high school for a day of competition in 100-, 200-, 400- and 800-metre races, shot put, javelin, long jump and triple jump.

Top competitors won ribbons and the opportunity to represent W.H. Day at the area meet, which will take place in June.
