Put a hold on those backyard fires — a total fire ban was put in place Friday for the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.

The town’s fire rating was raised to “extreme” as of 10 a.m., and the fire ban was put in place by BWG Fire Deputy Chief Olaf Lamerz, according to a press release.

“This action was necessary due to the lack of rainfall and the dry conditions it has created,” said Lamerz. “This burn ban will be in effect until the area receives some significant rainfall.”

All categories of burn permit are revoked until further notice.

The ban also means all burning is restricted.

During an extreme fire rating, “sparks will ignite fuels easily and spread would be rapid; virtually impossible to control,” read the town’s website.
