First annual “Coats for Connor” fundraiser collects winter coats for kids

Coat drive in honour of late Bradford teen Connor Ramsay

Bradford resident Wendy Ramsay, mother of late son Connor Ramsay, is collecting winter coats for kids as part of a new annual fundraiser, “Coats for Connor”. Jacket donations can be dropped off at A Hand Up Clothing Room on Frederick Street, Bradford.

In memory of Connor Ramsay, a Bradford teen who passed away in a tragic car accident in 2018, mother Wendy is collecting winter coats for kids in need of warm jackets this winter and even purchased brand new coats which were all donated to A Hand Up Clothing Room.

“It’s what Connor would have wanted,” shares Wendy.

Wendy’s sister gave her the idea after collecting and donating winter jackets for kids in need for over 15 years in Alliston as part of a Coats for Kids program.

Jeanny Salmon (a local counsellor) connected Ramsay with Patti LaRose, Director of Operations with CrossTrainers Canada and A Hand Up Clothing Room to donate the coats collected at their centre.

The winter coats and jackets donated by Wendy were attached with a card noting, “Gifts from Connor” and a picture of Connor and his story as a way to remember him. A pin was also included with the jackets, honoring Connor’s love of curling.

“I found out we don’t have a coats collection program in Bradford, so Jeanny got me hooked up with Patti so we could start our own program and as a way to honor Connor,” shares Wendy.

A Hand Up Clothing Room continues to collect more winter apparel for all ages, including hats, mittens, and scarves, especially as we approach the colder months of the season.

Connor’s favorite saying was, “I got this!” which is written at the bottom of the memory cards attached to each coat.

To make a donation, visit the centre on Wednesdays from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. and Fridays 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
