Five-year-old Bradford boy swings by Holland Gardens to show off golf game (5 photos)

Five-year old superstar golfer, Carter Stephen made a visit to Holland Gardens on Friday morning to showcase his skills

Carter Stephen is your typical five year old boy- he loves Lego, Beyblades, fishing, cars and outdoor activity.

But unlike most five-year-olds, Carter can drive a golf ball at an average of 90-100 yards.

On Friday morning, Carter stopped by Holland Gardens retirement residence to show off his skills and meet with some of the residents.

"This is his first time with such an audience," said his mother, Jaquie Ridout.

Guests gathered around the media room, where a short video of Carter was shown, with clips of him practicing at home in the basement or out on the green.

After that, Carter was delighted to take his clubs out in the hall to show everyone his putting skills.

When he was 18 months old, he started playing with mini hockey sticks in his basement, and it was during this time when his parents took note of his good hand-eye coordination and natural ability to swing the stick.

When he was just two and a half years old, his parents decided to take him out on the green to try out his golf swing and has been hooked on the game of golf ever since.

Every week during the warmer months, he spends hours upon hours at local golf club, Bradford Highlands, where he practices on the driving range and has even played nine hole games.

“Now we just turned our basement into a golf oasis,” explained Ridout. She says the area is filled with a mini putt zone as well as a netted area where Carter can practice his swings.

Young says everyday after school he will head to his practice space in the basement and play for a few hours with his dad.

At four years old, he was shooting a score of 55 with 15+ par attempts, six pars, three birdies, and a close hole in one shot.

“It’s pretty cool,” said Ridout.

Last summer, Carter attended his first ever junior golf camp at Cardinal Golf Club.

This spring he will be entering into his first tournament and has already been featured on the cover of Kids & Jr. Golf’s Facebook page
