Former Miss Canada Tourism wants to empower local girls

Hollyann Carroll offering workshops in Simcoe County this spring

Last year, Hollyann Carroll vowed to continue giving back to girls and young women once her reign as Miss Canada Tourism was over.

She’s keeping her promise.

Carroll, who splits her time between Orillia and Toronto, was named Miss Canada Tourism for 2017-18.

“I still want to continue on as a role model. I still feel that purpose to give back to women,” she recently told OrilliaMatters.

Carroll is planning to offer workshops in Orillia, starting in late April, for girls 11 to 19 years old. They will take place every Monday night for eight weeks at the Geneva Event Centre. Each workshop will have its own focus. They will include self-care, self-respect, fitness and more.

“I had the opportunity to have some of these classes when I was younger. I don’t want to waste that knowledge and my crown, so I wanted to give back,” she said.

Miss Canada Tourism is about internal and external beauty, and Carroll wants her workshops to mirror those priorities.

“There is so much beauty that we can find within, and that doesn’t mean surface beauty; that means feminine energy,” she said. “I want to be a role model that shines with beauty on the outside as well as the inside.”

Appearance and makeup will be covered during one of the workshops. Appearance is important, Carroll said, but what’s most important is that girls feel comfortable and confident in what they wear.

“There’s a way to dress for your body, there’s a way to apply makeup for your body and there’s a way to carry yourself in the best way you can,” she said. “I want everyone to leave with more self-confidence in who they are.”

She hopes to put on similar workshops in Barrie and Toronto, but the Orillia District Collegiate and Vocational Institute graduate wants to first offer them in the Sunshine City.

“That’s where I started. I like to go back to where I started and help women there,” she said.

Specific dates for the workshops have not yet been determined. That will depend on the number of people who register. There will be a cost associated with the events to help pay for the venue and guest speakers. For more information or to register, email [email protected] or call 705-305-6906.
