Former PM Brian Mulroney draws crowds to Caroline Mulroney’s Bradford office

The former prime minister, along with wife, Mila Mulroney, and son and TV personality, Ben Mulroney, were in Bradford West Gwillimbury on Saturday to show support.

Former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney told supporters in Bradford West Gwillimbury his daughter, York-Simcoe Progressive Conservatives MPP candidate Caroline Mulroney, will “never disappoint you.”

“What is going to solve everything for Ontario is a change of government. I want to thank you for the wonderful help and support you give my daughter, Caroline. Believe me, she’ll never disappoint you. She’ll never let you down,” he said.

“That’s why Caroline is in this race, for your future. Your future has to be pretty well the same for everyone here: good schools, good hospitals, clean, pristine environment, and public figures who will go to Queen’s Park and, after 15 years of banality and incompetence, clean up the province of Ontario.”

Brian Mulroney spoke to a packed crowd at the opening of Caroline Mulroney’s new campaign office at 160 Artesian Industrial Parkway in Bradford on Saturday.

The former prime minister, along with wife, Mila Mulroney, and son and TV personality, Ben Mulroney, were there to show support.

Caroline Mulroney said her dad taught her political lessons at an early age.

“He’s a big part of why I’m running in the first place. When I was a girl, I learned from him that politics is about doing what’s right for people in the long term, not about what makes you popular in the short term,” she said.

“Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to be unpopular, but my dad is recognized today for the courage he had to enact policies that required true political will. That is what we should expect from our leaders, and that is the kind of representative for York-Simcoe that I strive to be.”

She also gave a nod to current York-Simcoe MPP Julia Munro, who is retiring this year.

“I will do my best to follow in the footsteps of Julia Munro, who has represented York-Simcoe with such strength and conviction for 23 years.”

York-Simcoe MP Peter Van Loan was also at the event to show his support.

“I’m fond of my favourite Brian Mulroney quotation, which is, ‘Canada is a land of small towns and big dreams.’ That’s what York-Simcoe is on a small scale — a community of small towns with people with big dreams.”
