Four new Bradford COVID cases linked to schools

There are eight new COVID-19 cases in Simcoe County schools being reported today, all in Barrie and Bradford.

In Bradford, there is one new COVID-19 case at Chris Hadfield Public School and one more case at Fieldcrest Elementary School. One classroom at Chris Hadfield is closed, and two classes are closed at Fieldcrest where there are now three active confirmed cases. 

Two more cases have been confirmed at Bradford Catholic schools. One at Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bradford, where there are now two active confirmed cases. And the second at St. Angela Merici Catholic School, where there are five active cases and three classrooms closed. 

In Barrie there is one case each at Johnson Street Public School, Terry Fox Elementary School, and Bear Creek Secondary School. There's one new case at Innisdale Secondary where there are now two active cases and two classrooms closed. 

In total, there are four Simcoe County schools that have active outbreaks declared by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit: The Good Shepherd Catholic School in Barrie, W.H. Day Public School in Bradford, Boyne River Public School in Alliston, and Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bradford.

According to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, an outbreak is declared at a school when student and/or staff have confirmed COVID-19 cases that can be linked to the educational setting.

As of April 8 at the Simcoe County District School Board, there are 29 active COVID-19 cases:

  • One case at Emma King Public School in Barrie, with one classroom closed
  • One case at Hewitt's Creek Public School in Barrie
  • One case at Oakley Park Public School in Barrie, with one classroom closed
  • One case at West Bayfield Elementary School in Barrie, with one classroom closed
  • Two cases at Bradford District High School in Bradford, with one classroom closed
  • One case at Elmvale District High School in Elmvale
  • Two cases at Innisdale Secondary School in Barrie, with two classroom closed
  • Two cases at Alcona Glen Elementary School in Innisfil, with two classrooms closed
  • One case at Honourable Earl Rowe Public School in Bradford
  • One case at Willow Landing Elementary School in Barrie
  • One case at Goodfellow Public School in Innisfil
  • One case at James Keating Elementary School in Penetanguishene
  • One case at Tosorontio Central Public School in Everett
  • One case at W.H. Day Elementary School in Bradford, outbreak declared Mar. 31
  • Three cases at Georgian Bay District Secondary School in Midland, with two classroom closed
  • Two cases at Nantyr Shores Secondary School in Innisfil, with one classroom closed
  • Three cases at Fieldcrest Elementary School in Bradford, with two classrooms closed
  • One case at Fred C. Cook Elementary School in Bradford with one classroom closed
  • One case at Chris Hadfield Public School in Bradford with one classroom closed
  • One case at Johnson Street Public School in Barrie 
  • One case at Terry Fox Elementary School in Barrie
  • One case at Bear Creek Secondary School in Barrie

At the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, there are currently 26 active COVID-19 cases:

  • One case at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School in Tottenham, one classroom closure, reported Apr. 6
  • Two cases at St. Jean de Brebeuf Catholic School in Bradford, one classroom closure, reported Apr. 5
  • One case at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School in Barrie, one classroom closure, reported Apr. 4
  • Two cases at St. Mary's Catholic School in Collingwood, two classroom closures, reported Apr. 4
  • One case at St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School in Bradford, no classroom closures, reported Apr. 1
  • One case at Saint Gabriel the Archangel Catholic School in Barrie, reported on Apr. 1
  • Three cases at St. Marie of the Incarnation Catholic School in Bradford, one classroom closure, reported on Apr. 1
  • Five cases at St. Angela Merici Catholic School in Bradford, three classroom closures, reported on Apr. 3

ÉSC Nouvelle-Alliance in Barrie has one case, reported on March 24.

Notre-Dame-de-la-Huronie Catholic Elementary School in Collingwood has one case and one classroom closure, reported on March 28.

La Source Elementary School in Barrie is reporting one positive case in a student.

The health unit will contact those who are considered to have had high-risk exposure to a known case of COVID-19.
