With COVID-19 cancelling all graduation ceremonies, Promise Church has decided to host a drive-in movie night to recognize the accomplishments of all Bradford Grade 8 grads.
The church has rented out the Stardust drive-in movie theatre in Mount Albert on Wednesday Aug. 26 at 7:30 p.m. for Bradford youth entering high school this fall, to come celebrate with their friends featuring two movies, a DJ a car decorating contest, and prizes.
Grads are encouraged to decorate their vehicles in their graduating school's theme colours, mascot of logo.
The featured movies will be Jumanji: The Next Level and Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse.
The idea for the free movie night came from Promise Church's grant group, where together they decide on an initiative that involves giving back to the community. Group member, Pamlea Ruttan says this is her first time helping to plan one of the group's initiatives.
"We had many awesome ideas, but this specific idea was inspired by my love of the drive-in and the fact that it is was one of the only activities open," she shared.
She is happy to be able to give back to the Bradford youth who did not get a proper graduation celebration in June.
"It is a super important age to reach, being the time of teenage years, especially during this weird time," she explained.
Tickets are free, and only one is required per vehicle. They can be reserved here. There are only 100 tickets available, with only 85 remaining.
