From crafts to spooky stories, tots get taste of camping at Bradford library

The official wrap-up of the TD Summer Reading Club takes place Aug. 17 at 1 p.m.

Not every child gets to experience overnight camp.

Some kids are too young and for others, it may not fit the family lifestyle or budget.

But everyone could get a taste of camp life at the Camp Party-Palooza held at the Bradford Public Library on Aug. 9, as part of the TD Summer Reading Club.

Michelle De Gasperis organized the Camp Party – even creating a “campfire” in the Zima Room, with logs and Christmas lights.

“They sat around the campfire and we told two spooky stories,” including that perennial camp favourite, The Hook, said De Gasperis. “We had a sing-along. We sang There Was An Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly. Then they scattered to the tables to do crafts.”

The kids made necklaces, toilet-tube binoculars, and created their own camping snacks, with pretzel stick tents and gummy bears.

“It’s so cute,” said De Gasperis, as kids as young as three tried “camping out.”

Over the summer, the library has organized a number of Party-Paloozas, including a Bubble Bash outside on the west lawn, and a Paw Patrol Party. The final party of the summer will be the official wrap-up for the TD Summer Reading Club, when young members and their parents are invited to the library on Aug. 17, at 1 p.m.
