Dignitaries help Innisfil Garden Club celebrate 40th anniversary, with cake topped with (of course) a garden of icing flowers

The Innisfil Garden Club – originally the Gilford & District Horticultural Society – celebrated its 40th anniversary this past weekend with a catered luncheon at the Grange Hall in Lefroy.

Members were joined by Barrie-Innisfil MP John Brassard, Innisfil Mayor Lynn Dollin and Deputy Mayor Dan Davidson, as they enjoyed wraps and sandwiches, salads and sweet treats, including a cake created by Gladys Fieldhouse, topped with a garden of icing flowers.

Photographs and newspaper cuttings highlighting the last 40 years were on display.

The next meeting of the Innisfil Garden Club will take place on Monday, July 8 at the Churchill Community Centre in Innisfil, 7:30 p.m. Special guest Miriam Goldberger of Wildflower Farm will speak about her book Taming Wildflowers. Wildflower Farm is located at 10195 Hwy. 12 in Coldwater.

There will also be a flower show for members. Best Lily, Most Fragrant Rose and Best Rose trophies may be awarded. All entries should be brought to the hall between 6:30 p.m. and 7:10 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.
