Get patriotic at a Canada Day carnival this weekend

There will be a kids’ scavenger hunt, carnival games, face-painting, a "kissing" booth, and more, at the Bradford Farmers' Market on Saturday

The Bradford Farmers’ Market has big plans for the upcoming Canada Day long weekend.

In addition to its regular vendors and booths, Saturday’s market on June 29 will feature local artisans, red and white decorations, and a special theme: Family Carnival.

“We’re going to have a kids’ scavenger hunt, and carnival games,” said market manager Laura Vree. There will be face-painting, temporary tattoos, and a “kissing booth” – but not the kind of kissing booth comes to mind.

“They can guess the number of Hershey’s Kisses!” said Vree.

Music will be provided by Russ Clayton, a local children’s entertainer.

Visitors can also sign up for a mid-morning pie-eating contest. There is a fee, and the number of spaces is limited.

Tammy Jackson, of Sweet Annabella’s, was asked what kind of pies she plans to donate for the competition.

“I don’t know yet,” Jackson said. “I’m not going to do apple. What’s the most festive? Strawberry? Maybe blueberry!”

The Bradford Farmers' Market will be at the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library parking lot, 425 Holland St. W. in Bradford, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 29, rain or shine.
