A single vehicle collision early Tuesday morning has left one person dead and the vehicle’s driver shaken.

All northbound lanes on Highway 400 north of Mapleview Drive have been closed for a couple of hours as the OPP continue their investigation into the collision that occurred just out front of the ONroute. OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told BarrieToday that the highway should be reopened within the hour but not until the investigation is complete and the deceased has been removed upon coroner’s investigation.

“The OPP were called to a death investigation on Highway 400 northbound just north of Mapleview Drive,” said Schmidt. “We currently have the lanes blocked for the investigation with the coroner on scene and we are just waiting for some assistance from body removal to clear the highway.”

One male was pronounced dead on the scene while the driver of the SUV did not suffer severe physical injuries, though was disturbed from the collision.

“They’re very shaken up as is everyone investigating this,” said Schmidt. “Anytime there is a death investigation obviously it is traumatic on everybody involved – first responders as well as those involved. Certainly condolences to everyone affected by this tragedy and we will share information if it is appropriate and available.”

Police do have an identity of the deceased but will not be releasing it publicly. Next of kin will be notified shortly.
