Holland Gardens in Bradford hosts a holiday celebration

When Holland Gardens Retirement Residence opens next year, it will provide a continuum of accommodation for seniors, at home in Bradford West Gwillimbury

The holiday season is a time to get together with family and friends, which is why Holland Gardens Retirement Residence, now under construction, held a party for its future residents.

“This is really just a little bit of a holiday celebration with our depositors and prospects,” said marketing manager Shelley Snoulten, as she served cookies and pastries whipped up by chefs from Holland Gardens’ sister sites in Richmond Hill and Stouffville.

The new six-storey, 138-suite residence at 552 Holland St. W. is part of the Verve Senior Living family of retirement homes, and will offer “a full continuum of care – independent living, assisted living, and fully secured memory care,” Snoulten said. The monthly fee covers all meals, utilities, services and use of amenities that include a theatre, spa and salon, exercise room, bistro, games room, and more.

Target date for completion and occupancy is currently spring of 2019.

As a result, future residents, such as Rutger and Jane Fick, the first to register for a suite, are “getting more and more excited,” Snoulten said. The Ficks, who have been married for 61 years, registered for a one bedroom plus den in the new building.

“They’re really excited. They’ve been here right from the beginning,” Snoulten said.

While future residents chatted, enjoyed tea or coffee and treats, and watched a virtual tour of the model suites on the big-screen TV, local singer Judy McCoubrey entertained with seasonal music and old favourites.

Holland Gardens offers studio, one-bedroom, one-bedroom-plus-den and two-bedroom accommodations, with square footage of up to 78 square metres, and it is already more than 50 per cent sold. A virtual tour of the model suites can be viewed online.

Residents are like family, Snoulten said, “and we are going to look after them. They deserve to be looked after, cared for, and treated with absolute respect."
