The Innisfil ideaLAB & Library is excited to announce our participation in 100 Debates on the Environment – a series of non-partisan, all candidates debates taking place in over 100 ridings across Canada leading up to the 2019 Federal Election.

100 Debates on the Environment is taking place at the Lakeshore Branch on Thursday, Oct. 3 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. It is a free opportunity for residents to learn about the diverse platforms of our local federal candidates. Representatives from the Conservative Party, the Green Party, the Liberal Party, the NDP and the People’s Party of Canada, will be challenged to address the following topics: climate change, water pollution, toxic substances, Lake Simcoe, and local youth and the environment. Residents will have the opportunity to ask questions related to politics and the environment and the event will be streamed live by Rogers TV.

“Public libraries in Ontario have been taking a more active role in engaging their communities and providing education on the political process and how to get involved” said CEO, Erin Scuccimarri. “We are excited to be hosting an all candidates debate for the first time and doing what we do best: connecting our community with the resources they need.”

Innisfil local and avid volunteer Deborah McGrath, who moderated Innisfil’s municipal all candidates debate, will be returning as a moderator for this event. More information about 100 Debates and its organizers can be found at www.100debates.ca.

100 Debates is part of the Library’s Democracy in Action Speaker Series – non-partisan learning opportunities designed to boost civic participation. Information about the final event in the series is below.
