Innisfil's Biggest Garage Sale returns next month

Innisfil's Biggest Garage Sale is coming back this summer for the second year in a row

Innisfil's Biggest Garage Sale is coming back this summer for the second year in a row.

Innisfil residents and friends Jacquie Raaphorst and Ashely Newman organized the first weekend-long event last summer as a way to get residents out and about, finding local deals and giving sellers an opportunity to earn some extra pocket money.

"Yay round 2! We're back!" said an excited Newman.

Their Facebook page 'Innisfil's Biggest Garage Sale!!!' has tripled in size over the past year with 1,700 members, and expect to see a larger turnout this year with guests coming from all over the region and beyond.

Last year, the women encouraged sellers to donate part of their proceeds to Procyon Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Centre, but this year they have decided to put their efforts toward Royal Victoria Hospital and the new Innisfil south campus.

"This year we are asking everyone to make a minimum $5 donation that will be selling," said Newman. "We thought that would be fitting, so we are excited about that."

Newman says one of her favourite parts about running the sale is getting to meet so many new people.

"Especially as a newcomer to Innisfil, it has been great for me personally," she said.

Last year the ladies had their own sales going, but this year they plan to just shop around and oversee the event.

"Our focus is to raise money for charity, bring money back into the people's pockets of people of Innisfil, bring people together and have fun," said Newman. "We love doing this, it brings so much joy to both Jacquie and I."

The weekend-long sale takes place from Saturday, July 9 to Sunday, July 10.

No registration is required.

Donations can be made via electronic money transfer to RVH directly at [email protected]. The ladies are also willing to pickup donations in-person if preferred.

Once the donation is made, you can send a Facebook message to Raaphorst and she will add your address to the Google Map list of all participating sales.
