The municipal election race is heating up, with no candidates running unopposed for a seat in Bradford West Gwillimbury council.

Candidates had until today to file their paperwork.

Election day is Oct. 22, but BWG residents can vote anytime between Oct. 12 at 10 a.m. and Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. because the town has eliminated paper ballots, opting instead for phone or Internet voting.

The new term for the next council begins Dec. 1.

BWG Mayor Rob Keffer, who filed May May 17, is running against Nicola Iamonico (filed July 26) and Pat Roberge (July 27).

Deputy Mayor James Leduc (filed May 8) is running against Iftikhar Ahmad (July 26).

In Ward 1, in the west end of town between Sideroad 10 and Melbourne Drive, candidates include incumbent Raj Sandhu (May 10), Aftab Hussain (June 29), David Lontini (July 25), and Dave Wood (July 27).
