The Zima Room at the BWG Public Library was packed on Tuesday morning, for Singing with Russ.
Russ Clayton, popular children’s entertainer and recording artist, presented a brace of high-energy concerts that not only had kids and parents singing along, but dancing, playing musical instruments, and doing the Winter-Pokie.
It was just one of the many events at the library for March Break this year, and watching from the sidelines was new Children’s Services Librarian, Bailey Shaw.
Shaw, who has a background in teaching and an MLIS (Master of Library and Information Science), comes to Bradford from St. Catherines. She started about a week before the hectic March Break – what she termed a “very exciting” time.
And even as she watched the kids in the audience Fix the Wagon with a hammer, a screwdriver, and a unicorn shirt – to screams of laughter – and be Little Bunnies Sleeping, Shaw was already planning the summertime program itinerary.
“There’s a lot of really popular stuff,” she said, that will be back, “plus new ideas!”
Meanwhile, kids hopped like kangaroos, slithered like snakes, and copied the poses of the stick-figure drawings held up by Russ.
“Hopefully I’ve made a few of them tired for a nice nap,” he told the parents at the end of the show.
