Kids play with clay at the library

Kids get messy and creative at a clay workshop; More arts and crafts workshops are coming up this summer at the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library

The Kids’ Clay Workshop at the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library invited kids ages six and up to create their own kiln-fired clay owl container.

In fact, said potter Cathy Gifford, they could make any kind of container. The only limit was their imagination.

The young sculptors made owl, elephant, frog, cat and bunny bowls, painted them with slip, and then packed them away to be dried and fired at Gifford’s Burnt Offerings Studio, and picked up later at the library.

Gifford, who has been teaching hand-built and wheel-thrown pottery for more than two decades has been offering the popular clay workshops at the BWG Public library for years.

Her next event is a parent-and-tot clay workshop, “with the wee ones,” on Thurs., July 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – a family-friendly workshop that provides an opportunity to create memories and a clay object. The cost is $13. Please contact the library's Borrower Services to pre-register.

There will be another Kids’ Clay Workshop on Wed., Aug. 7 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. – again for kids ages six and up – for a cost of $13 per person.
